Adoption Resource:
www.adoption.com

There are some resources that I haven't used in a long time. Sometimes it's because the information isn't directly applicable to my situation. You'll also find a lot of information is repeated in a many books, websites, etc. It's been a long time since I went to adoption.com for both these reasons. The site is chock full of resources and has an active forum community.

The Adoption Decision

There are a lot of choices when it comes to building a family. Sometimes it is difficult to get specific information because each family, each scenario is unique. The decisions you need to make are dictated by your own personal needs and the laws of the state in which you live.

One of the best ways to get information about adoption agencies, lawyers or any other resources you may want to use in creating your family is to talk to actually people who are going or have been through the adoption gauntlet.

Thoughts on Family

When I turned 18, my mother told me I was adopted. It was fortunate in many ways, because it was a kinship adoption — so I grew up knowing my birth mother as my aunt. In retrospect, she was my favorite aunt even though we only saw her during summer trips to my grandparents in Oklahoma. So maybe that says something about a bond between parents and children. Or maybe it has more to do with her being a really nice person. Or both.

Adoption Resource:

Some of my favorite resources are these podcasts from the Creating A Family website. The site has a lot of useful information, but I find the adoption topics discussed on the podcasts to be interesting and helpful. Half of the topics deal with infertility issues and the other half with adoption. There are a few podcasts that are specifically about LGBT adoption issues. You can check out the podcasts on their website or on iTunes.

Welcome to the Obligatory
Explain-It-All First Blog Post

Okay. I'll admit it: I am terrible at blogging. There. I said it.

I suppose I consider myself to be a private person, not a big sharer of personal information. Which makes everything from ambitious blog ideas to the mundane Facebook status updates of very little interest to me.

With so many failed attempts at blogging, I make no promises of adding new content regularly. I can't tell you with a straight face that I won't lose interest or forget about it entirely.

So why this blog? Good question.
